Air Pollution
Air Myanmar pollution, particularly vehicle pollution, is an increasing problem. If you have severe respiratory problems speak with your doctor before traveling to any heavily polluted urban centers in Myanmar. This pollution also causes minor respiratory problems such as sinusitis, dry throat and irritated eyes. If troubled by the air Myanmar pollution, leave the city for a few days and get some fresh air.
Food
Eating in Myanmar restaurants is the biggest risk factor for contracting traveler's diarrhea. Ways to avoid it include eating only freshly cooked food and avoiding shellfish and food that has been sitting around in buffets. Peel all fruit, cook, and vegetables and soak salads in iodine water for the least 20 minutes. Eat in busy Myanmar restaurants with a high turnover of customers in Myanmar.
Water
The number one rule is be careful of the water and especially ice in Myanmar. If you don't know for certain that the water is safe, assume the worst. Reputable brands of bottled water or soft drinks are generally fine, although in some places bottles may be refilled with tap water in Myanmar. Only use water from containers with serrated seal hot tops or corks take care with fruit juice, particularly if water may have been added. Milk should be treated with suspicion as it is often unpasteurised, though boiled milk is fine if it is kept hygienically. Tea or coffee should also be OK, since the water should have been boiled.

Water purification
The simplest way to purify water is to boil it thoroughly. Vigorous boiling should be satisfactory; however, at high altitude water boils at a lower temperature, so germs are less likely to be killed, boil it for longer in Myanmar.

Consider purchasing a water filter for a long trip in Myanmar, these are two main kind of filter. Total filters take out all parasites, bacteria and viruses and make water safe to drink, they are often expensive, but they can be more cost effective than buying bottled water in Myanmar. Simple filters (which can even be a nylon mesh bag)take our of dirt and larger foreign bodies from the water so that chemical solutions work much more effectively; if water is dirty, chemical solutions may not work at all. It's very important when you buying a filter to read the specifications in Myanmar, so that you know exactly what it removes from the water and what it doesn't. Simple filtering will not remove all dangerous organisms, so if you can't boil water it should be treated chemically. Chlorine tablets will kill many pathogens, but not some parasites like giardia and amoebic cysts. Iodine is more effective in purifying water and is available in tablet from. Follow the directions carefully and remember that too much iodine can be harmful.
